The plot centers on Siu Fu-yung (played by Kathy Chow), a female ghost who has been trapped inside an old paper umbrella for 20 years. A warehouse coolie named Hui Dai-kwong (played by Gordon Lam) accidentally opens the umbrella and sets her spirit free.

He soon discovers that he is the reincarnation of her lost husband who was murdered in the prior decades. The series captured the public’s imagination by treating the umbrella not as a portable rain or sun shield, but as a glowing haven where the spirits find their true destiny. Accompanied by a famous theme song performed by Cantopop legend Anita Mui, the drama solidified the paper umbrella as Hong Kong’s ultimate symbol of romance transcending life and death, love destiny.
